BOD

CSSA BOARD MINUTES
June 10, 2019

The monthly meeting of the CSSA Board was held 6-10-2019, at Game Day, and called to order by Norm Thiem at 6:30 PM;

Present members: Ray DeLuca, Norm Thiem, Mike Parson, Dewey Hom, John Humeston, Don DiSalvo, Bob Hammond, Dick O’Conner, Bob Werner, Robbie Crider & Andy Tubbs.

Absent Members: Darrell Moreland, Randy Bergman

A. Andy Tubbs has been named the new director of American League, since Ricky Shoop resigned his position in March. Andy will remain director until the fall elections.

B. Minutes from the 3-25-2019, meeting were discussed & the BOD approved the minutes.

C. Financial report was read & discussed. The report includes income, expenses, player fees and sponsor fees. Current balance is $18,202, with approx. $5300, in expenses that are due within the next few weeks. BOD approved financial report.

D. The BOD is still looking for someone to step up and take over as Treasurer for the remainder of 2019 and into the 2020 season. Anyone interested… please contact any board member ASAP.

E. There are still a few sponsors who have not paid for the 2019 season. Ray will follow-up on the outstanding fees. Currently the CSSA has an outstanding sponsor balance of $3450.

F. The Facebook page for the CSSA is up and running. The donation page to benefit those members of the CSSA that are in some type of financial need has been added. Please be supportive of this page and ‘LIKE’ so it may be passed on to others.

G. A BIG reminder… GameDay, one of our CSSA sponsors, has set up a program that will give back to the CSSA 20% of their proceeds, of gross sales, on Tuesday nights for all players that visit and purchase food & beverages. Players will just need to notify their server that they play for a team in the CSSA.

H. All bats were compression tested for the National League, UNANNOUNCED. New approval stickers were placed on each bat, and they must be present on the bat when entering the batter’s box. Every bat that was tested was in compliance with manufacturer and the CSSA guidelines. We remind ALL players… If a bat has been altered in ANY way, then that player will be removed from the game and may face up to a 1 year suspension.

I. Game time rules were discussed on how to manage the time so games will start on time and alleviate games beginning late which keeps players up to 11:00 PM.
Some of the ideas are:
1. Bat 2 times before changing positions;
2. Mercy rule;
3. Omit open inning;
4. Flip-flop;
5. Allow a total of 3 HR per game, per team;
6. After 3 HR it will become an out;
7. After 3 HR it will become an ‘inning ending out’;
8. Speed up players between innings (time clock);
9. Change first game to begin at 6:30 PM instead of 6:45 PM:
10. Courtesy runners from 2nd base, except for 1 designated batter.
These ideas are just some of the options, and will be discussed further at our next BOD meeting. The CSSA has a couple of months to discuss these options before any decisions are made.

J. The CSSA Golf Tournament was a huge success. The tournament raised $2695, and cleared approx. $1600 after expenses. Funds will be used as needed for our special needs project.

K. The Awards Banquet is scheduled to take place on Thursday, November 14, 2019. A banquet location and/or catering business has not yet been determined. Ray has contacted 4 different venues to hold and cater the banquet, and is awaiting responses (bids).

L. Summer League is scheduled to begin on June 20, and run through August 8, 2019. This will be a 6 game schedule with a season ending tournament. The cost is $25 per player. Contact Robbie Crieder for information and/or sign-up.

M. Fall season is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 12, 2019.

N. Evaluations are scheduled for the fall season:
1. July 20 & 21 Skip Wells (12:00 – 2:00)
2. July 23 Hobgood Park
3. July 27 & 28 Skip Wells (12:00 – 2:00)
4. August 3 & 4 Hobgood Park (if needed)

O. Discussed umpire evaluations. Darrell is working on an evaluation form prior to fall season.

K. Next scheduled meeting for the CSSA, BOD is 6:30 PM, July 9, 2019, at Gameday Grill in Woodstock.

Meeting was adjourned 9:00 PM.

There are questions swirling around about legal bats . The following link will take you the USA/ASA website to see a list of legal bats. There is also a list of ASA bats that have the certification stamp, but are not legal
